You know what I'd like to see instead of the candidate's plans for solving the economic crisis? A congressional bill that does something about it now. At the rate that giant financial institutions are coming to the verge of bankruptcy, by January we will be in an irreversible recession (if we aren't already). I think it's pretty clear to most people that an immediate solution is needed. Bush, clearly is doing nothing. I almost prefer it that way, since if he did do anything it would almost certainly be the wrong thing. Is it naive to think that you shouldn't stop congressional work when you're campaigning? Can't you take a week off here and there to sponsor some legislation that might have a chance to stop the economic crisis from spiraling out of control? It seems like that would prove to a lot of people that you're committed to doing something about it. Looking at the current agenda of congress, I put economic relief above any of the issues on there. So, the first person in congress to sponsor something like that gets my vote, regardless of if they're actually running :P
Ranting aside, while looking at the agenda, I came across an interesting proposed bill, The Family and Consumer Choice Act of 2007. I support this, for all the wrong reasons. Basically, it lets you pick and choose the cable channels you want to buy. The intended purpose is to keep children from being exposed to offensive television. The first cited example is Janet Jackson's breast at the superbowl (wasn't that on broadcast tv anyway?), but who wouldn't want to pick and choose channels they pay for? I think this may be the only thing I'll ever agree with the American Decency Association on. As nice as it would be to pick and choose your own channels, it's still way less important than making sure people have a house to watch tv in.
